FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Orthletek orthotics are specially designed custom shoe inserts that are intended to align and support the foot and ankle.  When the foot hits the ground it sets up the foundation for the biomechanics of the entire body. Orthotics can be an effective tool to help alleviate both painful and debilitating conditions of the feet, knees, hips, and spine as well as enhancing athletic performance. Orthletek orthotics are crafted using a scan of individual’s feet and can be modified to address your specific problems. Our orthotics are considered “semi-rigid”, which means they are lightweight but have enough rigidity to support the foot while allowing the muscles and joints of the feet to maintain proper strength and mobility.

Your orthotic needs may vary depending on your activities and the shoe that you are wearing. So, we make different styles -  like running shoes, bike shoes, skates, cleats or business/dress shoes to fit where you need it.

What common ailments could be improved with custom orthotics?

  • Overpronation

  • Supination

  • Leg Length Discrepancies

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is the insertion of thin, sterile, disposable needles into specific points on the surface of the body.  The needles are as thin as a human hair. When inserted, the sensation of the needle is minor and any discomfort lasts only a few seconds.  Patients frequently experience deep relaxation or feeling energized after a treatment.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a therapeutic procedure that involves inserting thin, filiform needles into tight muscles to stimulate healing and increase blood flow. While receiving dry needling at our clinic, you may experience the clinician inserting the needle, moving the needle around or pistoning the needle to hit the trigger point, and the muscle twitching and relaxing. When the muscle twitches, you may experience a quick dull ache or cramping sensation but we make sure to perform massage work on the area afterward to prevent prolonged soreness.

Why should I choose private pay care over insurance-based care?

Private pay physical therapy is generally much more personal than insurance-based care. Without insurance dictating how the session is performed, your goals are the main focus of the session. The session consists of hands-on manual therapy techniques meant to correct your muscle and joint limitations followed by education on exercises that are both easy to do and functional so that they will translate into the activities that you are having difficulty with outside of the clinic.
